Asamat Sanskrit Sadhana

Asamat Sanskrit Sadhana is an expanded, revised, and updated version of the previous book Asamat Sanskrit Charchat Itihas. Correcting a few minor errors from the earlier edition, this work spans a wider horizon to include authors and works up to the early twenty-first century. It presents an extensive discussion on the Sanskrit compositions of medieval playwrights, poets, and scholars, led by Srimanta Sankardeva.

Furthermore, it offers a detailed historical account of Sanskrit pursuits during the transitional phase of Assamese language and literature—from the era of the Orunodoi to Ramdhenu. It notes the influence of ancient literature and references essays and poems on Sanskrit themes published in periodicals like Orunodoi, Jonaki, and Bahi. It also discusses the 19th-century British administrators' methodology of studying ancient Sanskrit literature, its impact on Assamese critics, and the subsequent analytical perspective of essayists in those journals. It covers the status of Sanskrit in higher education in Assam, institutional research journal initiatives, and a dedicated essay on the contribution of Sanskrit to the enrichment of Assamese literature. Finally, it highlights prose specimens of Sanskrit rock inscriptions, copper-plate inscriptions, poetry, dramas, hymns, and songs from the 5th to the 21st century. The research book concludes with essential references and explanatory notes.
