Divided into four chapters and one appendix, this slender volume introduces Pragjyotisha-Kamarupa. It uses textual citations to discuss the relationship between this ancient province and mainstream India as documented in various ancient classical Indian literary works and inscriptions. It provides a comprehensive account of Sanskrit language and literature in ancient and medieval Pragjyotisha-Kamarupa (Assam), followed by an overview of Sanskrit compositions in Assam from the Treaty of Yandabo up to the 1980s. Brief introductions to the poets, scholars, and their respective works are included.
