Hemkosh (15th Edition)

The historic 15th revised edition of 'Hemkosh', the seminal etymological dictionary of the Assamese language, was officially unveiled in Guwahati on December 10, 2023. Originally compiled in the late 19th century by Late Hemchandra Baruah—affectionately revered as the Bhaxar Oja (the wizard of language)—this dictionary continues to serve as the ultimate standard reference for Assamese orthography and spelling conventions. This landmark edition was brought to fruition under the leadership of Jayanta Baruah, Chairman of the Sadin-Pratidin Group and heir to the legendary lexicographer, alongside the scholarly guidance and oversight of eminent academics Dr. Malini Goswami, Dr. Basanta Goswami, and Dr. Upen Rabha Hakasam. Spanning over 1,200 pages and containing more than 100,000 entries, the volume integrates approximately 3,000 new words to reflect the modern evolution and contextual growth of the language, serving as an invaluable cultural and linguistic resource for the region.
